Las Cruces, New Mexico is truly a land of enchantment. There are so many fun things to do in this quaint desert town that you often don’t even need to plan ahead! With springtime nearly upon us, we decided to compile a collection of the best things to do in Las Cruces.
We recently posted a blog highlighting fun things to do in El Paso, so whether you’re a Texan or New Mexican, there’s something out there for you to create lifelong memories!
Go For a Hike at Dripping Springs Natural Area
Las Cruces has some of the most beautiful nature trails and hiking areas this side of the Rio Grande. Dripping Springs Natural Area is one such highlight. Whether you’re an avid hiker or you simply want a shift in scenery, Dripping Springs is a surefire bet.
If you want to see the titular dripping springs, then make sure to schedule your visit after the rainy season concludes. Witnessing the waterfall that cuts through the desert landscape brings about a euphoric sense of discovery. Even if the waterfall is dry, the Dripping Springs hike itself is as beautiful as it is relaxing. Come by yourself, with your family, or a group of friends to create some lifelong memories!
Visit the Farmers & Crafts Market of Las Cruces
Now that the weather is warming up, it’s the perfect time to visit this excellent farmers market! The Farmers & Crafts Market of Las Cruces takes place Saturdays from 8:30 am to 1 pm. With nearly 300 merchants setting up shop, you can expect the entirety of Las Cruces’ downtown to be lined with vendors.
This farmers market takes over seven city blogs along Main Street. You can expect live music, delectable food trucks, as well as jewelry and a wide variety of locally grown produce, farm-raised meat, freshly baked bread, locally roasted coffee, and so much more.
Then, if the heat is too much, you can cool off in COAS Books, Las Cruces’ largest used book store. COAS is located right on Las Cruces’ Main Street. The Farmers’ Market takes place, quite literally, at COAS’s front door!
If you’re in El Paso, we recommend making the drive out to Las Cruces on Saturday! This family- and pet-friendly farmers’ market is truly unlike any other.
Catch a Flick at Mesilla’s Fountain Theatre!
While not technically in Las Cruces, the Mesilla Valley Film Society at the Fountain Theatre is a must-see for film fans of all ages.
The small theater has been entertaining the residents of La Messila since 1905! Today, the Fountain Theatre screens arthouse, foreign, and independent films on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. For the month of February, they are screening the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring film “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.” Later on in the month, they will screen “The Souvenir Part II.” Regular tickets are $9 or $8 for students, seniors, and military.
If you’re planning on visiting Las Cruces on a Saturday, you can organize your day around the 2:00 or 7:30 screenings. Make sure to check out the Showtimes page to see what else may screen in the future!
